‘been busy this summer.

I’ve been keeping busy this summer with classes and other fun things. I started off my summer schedule with tumbling classes, which were kind of meh. It was little obstacle courses and backwards somersaults. A bunch of little kid stuff. But then, I started my gymnastics classes. And that was a lot different. I was excited because it was actually going to be bars and mats and balance beams. Real stuff.

I liked my first class so much that mama signed me up for a whole week of gymnastics camp, which meant I got to skip tumbling class. I got to go for four days straight, two hours at a time. It was so much fun and exhausting too.

Then a couple of weeks ago I started swim class. Mama and daddy weren’t sure if I’d be ok with being in the water by myself, because they kind of had to talk me into it, but I’m like a dolphin now and it’s my favorite part of the day. You should see me swimming by myself (with my instructor holding me up). I go every day Monday through Friday for a half hour. I get a lot of time in the water because there are just three other kids in the class. I am on my third week now and I get to go for most of the rest of the summer.

Mama and Kai and I have gone blueberry picking a couple of times. We found a nice farm not too far away that has wonderful berries and a bridge and a playground area and ice cream.

Just look at those berries!

And Kai’s been around, too. Working hard on those teeth. Sitting up really well. Grabbing everything. Rolling over front and back. Usual baby stuff.

I went to Carson’s pirate-themed birthday party (@ Pump it Up! WOOOOO!) and let mama put temporary tattoos on me for the first time. Don’t mess with this bad boy.

Kai and I like to have tummy time together on my bed.

And check out what mama did to my pool!

It’s all been really really good but the best part of all is that we went to the beach this weekend and stayed with some friends at their house that’s a five minute walk to the beach. That was so fantastically fun that each one of us slept for two hours as soon as we got back home yesterday. I have pictures that we will post soon.

Good night
and
good summers to you.

Happy Five-Month Birthday to Kai

Go to the blog to see the video of Kai sitting up

Kai is five months old today! He's been wanting to sit up a lot and he's doing pretty well at doing it unsupported. Never lasts too long but he sure tries! He's also working on his bottom teeth. They haven't popped through yet but we should be seeing them any day now!

New style of pants

The other night mama put my shirt on wrong. Really, really wrong. It was kind of funny but practical too. I mean, there’s a built-in hole for pottying.

I’m very excited today that I’m going to Carson’s birthday party at Pump It Up and also Yamma and Baba and Auntie Amy are coming over this afternoon to have dinner with us. I am so excited that I woke up at the crack of 6 o’clock, which was earlier than even Kai wakes up. Mama wasn’t too happy to see me in her room at 6 am on a Saturday.

She eventually sent me to see daddy and then downstairs to play. I came back upstairs holding something between my fingers.

ME: Hey mom, guess what I found! (holding something out, then flicking it at mom)

MOM: I don’t know…what was that?

ME: A fly!

MOM: A fly? What…why? (looking around, finding a dead fly on her shirt) Why did you have a dead fly? And why did you throw it at me?

ME: …

MOM: Go wash your hands!

ME: …

MOM: Wash your hands now!

ME: …I am!

DAD: Flies are gross, Ian. They eat poop!

ME: EW! Well, I just found it on the window sill.

MOM: What kind of person picks up a dead fly?

DAD: A little boy.

Congraduations, mama

Last week mama graduated from school. I was hoping that "last day of school” also applied to work but apparently mama still has to go to that. The day of graduation, I woke up and said “congraduations” to mama a lot and I like the word so I’m still saying it after a week.

Kai and I got to go to the ceremony. I took my Mars book. Mama’s boss Mike and his wife Nancy were there with us and I lost count of how many times Mike read Mars to me.

IMG_1958 IMG_1959

Here’s mama walking down the aisle. It would have been nice if she could have sat with us. But all the black-robe/funny hat people sat in front.

IMG_1960

Here’s mama waiting in line to get hooded and plaque’d.

IMG_1965

I danced when mama was up on stage! She waved to me when she was up there.

IMG_1967

After the end of the boooring speeches and stuff, the black robe/funny hat people walked back. Here’s our friend Rick. I guess he didn’t like his hat.

IMG_1971

And here’s mama! Everybody was smiling and happy. We’re all glad it’s done.

IMG_1972

When we got back home we got ready for the party. Oma brought a cake and lots of our friends came over to celebrate and say congraduations.

IMG_1974 IMG_1975  IMG_1978

It was a sunny hot day and they forgot to sunblock me until I was already pink!

IMG_1982IMG_1984  IMG_1987

I made a friend.

IMG_1989

Opa hiding in the corner. Not a literal corner, but definitely a figurative corner.

IMG_1985 IMG_1993

I just realized that this probably means that they expect me to do lots of school too. I like school so that’s probably ok but we’ll have to see.

Jeep Man

O yes. I am now officially a driving man. I got my new wheels a few weeks ago. Check it out!

I looove it!

Mama’s friend from work gave it to me; his little boy is too big for it so SCORE ONE FOR IAN!

Four month old Kai.

IMG_2029 Kai-Kai went to the doctor last week for his 4 month checkup. Healthy as they come, just like me. He’s now up to 25.25” (56%), 15lb 11oz (61%) and 93% head circumference. I was a little shorter and a full pound heavier at that age. (and we call Kai the chunky monkey!) Apparently mama was still bitter about my head circumference at birth because she didn’t record that stat until I was 9 months old.

He started eating rice cereal last weekend, and the last couple of nights he has had some while we eat dinner. It’s fun to have all of us eating together. Him nursing at the table just isn’t the same. He is a very messy eater. He’s not totally sure that he likes the cereal, and the little tongue reflex keeps pushing a lot of it out of his mouth. But he does lean forward and open his mouth when the spoon comes toward him.

I’m not sure where my camera got to, but mom always has one around. I snapped some pictures with it yesterday. Here’s our neighbor, mama, Bailey and my car mat. I think I may have had my finger in front of the lens in a couple of them. It’s barely noticeable though.
